Common Roots Cafe + $50 Giveaway

    Hey-o Minneapolis friends!

Did you know?  Common Roots Cafe in the Uptown area is where it’s AT.

Common Roots Cafe was recently featured on the Eat Better America Healthy Restaurant Road Trip as a tasty and healthy restaurant in the Minneapolis area. I’ve been hearing good things about this place for a while, so when given the chance to try it out, it was an easy yes!

Although the quantity of food we ate probably doesn’t qualify as healthy (macaroni and cheese with spinach walnut pesto, basil, mozzarella and Parmesan as a STARTER), it felt awesome to enjoy a meal of fresh, organic, creative food that was locally sourced.

Wanna see what we ate? It’s ok, I like creeping on other people’s food, too.

After perusing the menu online for at least 20 minutes before getting to the restaurant, I decided to order the veggie burger.  As a self-proclaimed veggie burger snob, I can tell you that this was one of the best veggie burgers I’ve ever had!  The texture was the perfect balance of crunchy, grainy, and moist – and the flavors rocked my face off.  Who knew a sunflower-spinach veggie burger topped with pickled radish, aioli and roasted garlic spread could be so delicious?  Well, I guess I did. Holla.

After looking at the menu for maybe 5 seconds, Bjork ordered the flat iron steak. And although it was not quite as well-thought out as my order, it was a great decision.  Grass-fed beef in a Madeira pan sauce with mushroom, wilted spinach and poached potatoes?  Yeah.  We absolutely loved the steak.  And honestly, check out those potatoes.  I’m melting.

And now, things get life changing.

I ended up making a split second decision to get a sea salt caramel latte to go with my chocolate cherry cake. SEA.SALT.CARAMEL.LATTE.  Could I write a whole post just on that latte?  Yes, I could.  It was so creamy, so strong, and so so so unexpectedly salty in a buttery caramel way.  I WILL be back for that latte.  I will.
